DEV.DIARY How was everything done Part 2 - The core dev team members

Hello again my friends!

This time, I want to share with you the core members of the Apopia dev team.

Beside me as the director of the game, we also got Ricky the programmer and Hanna the art director.

I still remember where it all started. It was in 2016 when Ricky and I started exploring different ideas of game dev. We are childhood friends and we both have the passion to make a game. His background is programming while mine is art and design. So our skill sets were a perfect match for a game dev startup.

I remember we had our earliest meetings in Starbucks right next to his home and the place where I worked at that time. We met quite frequently to share our ideas, vision and eventually, we came up with the idea: Apopia.

Ricky was the sole programmer of the entire game. Which was literally insane. Imagine spending most of your time in 10 years on just a single program.

Then, 10 years passed in a just blink. I remember it was a few days before Apopia: Sugar Coated Tale launched. We once again met in the same place for a final meeting. The feeling was… strange. After 10 years of work hard, struggle, tears, agreements, arguments and many more. Finally we went to the same place where we started.

Now looking back, I don’t really know how to describe this 10-years passed journey. Ricky and I didn’t really talk about it. It’s like “Life”, it isn’t something you can describe with just words. But you get all the feelings, emotions inside.

For our art director Hanna, she actually joined after Prologue. She’s a very talented American comic artist. Also my fiancée. After developing Prologue, I could see my limitation in doing and designing all the arts by myself. And that’s the time Hanna came to help.

The way she sees and makes art was very different from me. Her persistence to details and perfection are the qualities I value a lot.

During the 4 years of developing Sugar Coated Tale, we went through hell as we faced so many obstacles along the way. But thanks to her, we conquered all the challenges and finally got the game released, and our art was one thing that got praised a lot by reviews!

In the next one, I will introduce our animation team. I was so fortunate to have such a great team of talents to help me animate Apopia. See you in the next one!
